Edge.org is one of my favourite websites for stirring up the mind and stepping back to look at the bigger picture. There is always something there to provoke.

A recently published interview is one of the most thought-provoking I’ve seen/read on the looming potential of the future for some time.

Yuval Noah Harari is Professor, Department of History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He’s being interviewed by Daniel Kahneman, Nobel Prize winner for Economics and author of the famous Thinking Fast and Slow about human judgement and decision-making.

Yuval’s specialism is History but his insights into societal trends are inspiring stuff. My paraphrased favourites from this interview:

  • Death is optional
  • People are increasingly superfluous
  • If a role requires intelligence but not consciousness then a machine/algorithm will do it
